Abstract

One of the mysteries of OR/MS teaching is no doubt the AoA vs AoN syndrome. It poses the following dilemma in connection with teaching the Critical path Method: should the popular and well established Activity on Arc (AoA) paradigm or the pedagogically and practically superior Activity on Node (AoN) paradigm be used? In this discussion we argue that it is time to eradicate this affliction and call upon OR/MS courseware developers to once and for all abandon the AoA paradigm in favour of AoN. A simple on line module is provided for experimentation with the Critical Path Method.
