Abstract
Abstract The Discipline of Authentic Movement and related practices grouped under the term Authentic Movement appear, by merit of their name, to purport the possibility of teaching and learning movement that is authentic. This article critiques the term authentic with regard to movement and instead offers an historic and philosophical understanding of the term exploring the genealogy of the practice’s name. Further the article develops a case for a new ontology of the methodological workings of the Discipline of Authentic Movement by listing and exploring some of its key qualities. The article expands previous research of its precursor of 2009: ‘Is Authentic the correct name to describe the Discipline of Authentic Movement’, and proposes and explains an alternative term for the practice, namely the MoverWitness or, simply, Movers and Witnesses.
