Abstract

The Discipline of Authentic Movement and related practices grouped under the term Authentic Movement appear, by merit of their name, to purport the possibility of teaching and learning movement that is authentic. This chapter critiques the term authentic with regard to movement and instead offers a historic and philosophical understanding of the term exploring the genealogy of the practice's name. Further, the chapter develops a case for a new ontology of the methodological workings of the Discipline of Authentic Movement by listing and exploring some of its key qualities. It expands previous research, Is Authentic the correct name to describe the Discipline of Authentic Movement (Chapter 7 of this book) and proposes and explains an alternative term for the practice, namely the MoverWitness or, simply, Movers and Witnesses.
