Abstract

The multiparametric theory of the Gaussian polymeric chain is equivalent in the asymptotic region ( N → ∞, where N is the number of links in the polymeric chain to the monoparametric Gaussian theory. In these theories, a necessary condition for a minimum in the system's free energy is satisfied in the trivial case of a polymer with-out long-range interactions. These theories cannot therefore form a correct basis for using the cyclic polymer model to calculate the mean square distance between the ends of the polymeric chain by using the self-consistent field method.
