Abstract

Conflicts are an organic part of our lives. As human beings, we are all different having diverse opinions. This diversity of opinion sometimes triggers differences and if not handled constructively could lead to conflicts. Such interpersonal conflicts can happen in families, amongst friends, in institutions, and in the neighbourhood. During interpersonal conflicts there can be communication breakdown or use of toxic communication. In all such conflicts, there is a negative communication ecosystem. The challenge, hence, is the restoration of a healthy communication ecosystem. It is in this backdrop that assimilation of Gandhian nonviolent communication principles can be a powerful strategy at interpersonal level and for transformation of relationships. This chapter will precisely look at the efficacy and impact of Gandhian nonviolent communication in interpersonal conflict resolution. The chapter is based on the reflections of participants of different workshops that the author has conducted and follow-ups of these workshops taken forward by others.
