Abstract

This article proposes an analysis of human communication, through a materialist reading of semiotics and culture, capable of accounting for the construction and possibility of critical discourses with which to deal with the emptying of meaning of imposed symbols or degraded in their expressive authenticity by the logic of globalized culture. Through the construction (identification) of the Zoque Mayan symbolic region of the state of Chiapas, we will have the possibility of expanding the horizon of significance of the symbols and alternative interpretations that are available, both in long memory practices, as well as in artistic expressions. Searching with the above, to find the way for the institutionalization of different subjective identities, critical or contrary to what is imposed in societies of postmodern peripheral capitalism, as is the case of the Zoque Mayan region of the state of Chiapas.
