Abstract

Abstract Fully revised, this 2nd edition covers aspects of tourism from a modern perspective, providing students with a range of theoretical and research-based explanations, supported by examples, case studies and unique insights from industry representatives. This book is divided into five major parts. Part One, 'Tourism Perspectives', introduces the nature of tourism and the economics of this activity. Part Two, 'Tourism People', considers the role of the people who work in tourism and the environment within which they work. Part Three, 'Consuming Tourism', offers what might be called a 'demand-side perspective'. This part of the book explores the relationship between tourism and transport, accommodation, food and beverage, visitor attractions, as well as the themes in tourism. Part Four, 'Tourism Management', deals with the supply-side of tourism and covers operations management, destination management, tourism and destination strategy, and tourism and destination marketing. Part Five, 'Tourism Development' deals with tourism policy and planning and sustainable tourism development. The book concludes with Part Six, 'Tourism Futures', which deals with the nature and importance of tourism research and the future of tourism. The book has 18 chapters and a subject index.
