Abstract

The massive growth of international tourism has been paralleled by the increasing globalization of communications and financial services, which in their turn have contributed to the expansion of the tourism industry. This article examines the links between the two and argues that the global tourism infrastructure now forms an important component of international relations. The article attempts to provide a framework for the policy analysis of international tourism and suggests where future research and action are needed.
