Abstract

The natural polyketide lunularic acid (6) was prepared in six steps starting from 4-methoxystilbene and methyl 2,6-dihydroxybenzoate Lunularine (10) is available in an analogous manner in three steps starting from 4-methoxystilbene and 3-methoxyphenol. Key step of both syntheses is a hydroboration/ palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling protocol, that offers a convenient approach to dihydrostilbenes starting from a styrene and a phenolic building block.
