Abstract
Total electron scattering cross sections (σ t ) for Ar, N 2 , H 2 O and D 2 O are determined in the energy range between 7 and 500 eV using a linear electron transmission device. The thermal transpiration effect is considered. Results for Ar and N 2 are in good agreement with those of previous experiments. The present results for H 2 O agree well with those of Brüche, Szmytkowski, Szmytkowski et at . and Zecca et al . However, some difference still remains among the recent results in the energy region below 15 eV. The σ t for D 2 O is much the same as for H 2 O within the experimental uncertainty.
