Abstract

For a particle that moves through a non-rectangular potential barrier, the total delay time is for the first time explicitly calculated as a function of the particle's potential energy. The resulting expressions are obtained with respect both to the transmission and to the reflection. They are valid for a large variety of sufficiently smooth potentials.
