Abstract
The total cross sections for absorption of photons in carbon and aluminium have been measured for photon energies of 100, 150, 200 and 250 MeV. The γ-ray bremsstrahlung beam from the 300 MeV electron synchrotron at Glasgow University was used as the source of photons. Two magnetic pair spectrometers were used as photon detectors. The results obtained are in close agreement with theoretical calculations of the total cross sections.
