Abstract

The total cross section for the absorption of photons in hydrogen has been measured for photon energies of 100, 150, 200 and 250 MeV. The γ-rays bremsteahlung beam from the 300 MeV electron synchrotron at Glasgow University was used as the source of photons. Two magnetic pair spectrometers were used as photon detectors. From the results, values of the cross section for triplet production have been derived which are in better agreement with theoretical calculations based on the predictions of Borsellino than those of Votruba.
