Abstract

The problem of mode III of a two-layered composite in a finite length circular cylinder containing a penny-shaped crack is considered. Using Hankel and finite sine transform, the problem is reduced to the solution of a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. The expression of K III for small volumes of the ratio of the radius of the crack to the length of the circular cylinder is obtained by seeking an iterative solution of the integral equation. Numerical results for stress intensity factor of any ratio are shown graphically. It is worthy of note that K III in the paper is independent of material properties.
