Abstract

A complete analytical study is presented for the distribution of three-dimensional unsteady temperatures in a hollow right circular cylinder of finite length and composed of two concentric radial layers in imperfect thermal contact. The prescribed rates of heat flow over the entire boundary, and the distributed heat sources in each layer are expressed in terms of arbitrary functions of space and time, the initial conditions being also arbitrarily prescribed. The general expression, given in various forms, for the unsteady temperature field in the cylinder contain the solutions to many special problems of technological importance.
