Abstract

To the Editor: Maymone et al1 recently analyzed bibliographic information to suggest the 50 most influential dermatology authors. Academic dermatologic literature guides dermatologists in updated evidence-based clinical decision-making, and many metrics exist to assess author influence. In contrast to Maymone et al,1 who analyzed the total numbers of citations received by an author's articles, our study examines the top 50 dermatologic authors by a different influence metric called the h-index,2 the highest number h where an author has published h papers cited at least h times.
