Abstract
The aim of the study was to assess the degree of differentiation of Russian regions with respect to readiness and involvement in the process of digitalization of the economy in order to find an adequate set of tools to smooth out these contradictions. To achieve this goal, groups of indicators were identified to assess the level of differentiation of regions regarding the readiness and involvement of regions in the processes of digitalization. At the same time, unlike the methods used to assess the level of digitalization of the regional economy, the authors not only compared the regions with each other, but also compared the actual values of indicators with the limit criteria (reference) values. As an empirical base of the study, data on nine regions of Central Russia, namely Moscow, Vladimir, Ivanovo, Kostroma, Kaluga, Nizhny Novgorod, Ryazan and Yaroslavl regions were used. As a result of the study, the features of differentiation of regions in the process of formation of the digital economy are determined, and the tools of its smoothing are determined.KeywordsDigital economyRegionDifferentiationSmoothing toolsJEL ClassificationO 18R 22
