Abstract
ABSTRACT To the Editor: —The lead editorial of the Sept 1 issue of The Journal (181:784) referred to an article on tonsillectomy and poliomyelitis by Dr. Ravenholt of Seattle which was published in the May, 1962, issue of the American Journal of Diseases of Children. In this study, Dr. Ravenholt fails to find any higher incidence of bulbar polio among those who have had their tonsils removed more than a month earlier than among those who still have their tonsils in situ. Your editorial states that Dr. Ravenholt has presented convincing evidence that bulbar paralysis is not more frequent in tonsillectomized patients and later that Previous reports of this association were not supported by age-specific data.I do not know the origin of this editorial, but I am concerned about its inaccuracies and especially the inferences that would be drawn by one who read the editorial but not the original
