Abstract
The Tokyo Metropolitan Gerontology Center (TMGC) established the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology (TMIG) in 1972. The Institute, located adjacent to the Tokyo Metropolitan Geriatric Hospital (TMGH) and close to several other nursing facilities of TMGC, aims to promote research on aging. TMIG, originally a part of the TMGC organization, became a foundation in 1981, independent from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. TMIG, a representative institute of aging research in Japan, is briefly introduced herein.
