Abstract

The article investigates the issues of differentiation of the status of the service words in the Avar language. The problem of determining the part-speech status of materially identical, but functionally different units of the language is actual for Daghestan-studies overall. When studying the Avar language, there is also a number of service words, the speech-status of which the researcher choose on his own. Sometimes the same language units in the same source have different qualifications. The article substantiates the expediency of the study of materially identical but functionally different units of the language within a single category of satellite as transmitting the same concept. This unification is based on their genetic relationship. The functional criterion is proposed as the main one for distinguishing the categorical status of such units.
