Abstract

Object of the study is the dictionaries published with contributions from scientists of the Department of General and Slavic Linguistics of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University; subject of the study is the peculiarities of the selection of linguistic units and their representation in dictionaries of various types (language of writers, linguistic terms, anthroponyms). Purpose of the study is to analyze lexicographic papers of the Department of General and Slavic Linguistics of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. Descriptive and comparative (i.e. comparison with other lexicographic works) methods are used. As a result of the study, it has been determined that over the several decades of the history of the Department of General and Slavic Linguistics, the scientists of the Department in collaboration with their colleagues from other departments have published five unique lexicographic works. Conclusions: lexicographic works published with contributions from scientists of the Department of General and Slavic Linguistics are outstanding and remarkable; their origin is stipulated by the formation of new linguistic paradigm as well as specific needs of social life; linguistic units being the basis of the original dictionaries (“Poetic word of Kobzar” and “Poetic word of Pushkin”) have formed innovative type of dictionaries basing upon linguistic units since dictionaries of lexical components of attributive structures are the first ones in the history of original lexicography; “Basic dictionary of linguistic terms” has fixed the innovative (for that time) terms of social linguistics and cognitive linguistics – the sciences which began their speedy progress in the early 2000s; anthroponymic dictionaries (“Russian-Ukrainian dictionary of surnames of the citizens of Dnipropetrovsk” and “Dictionary of patronymics”) are the first lexicographic publications of normative type containing codified surnames and patronymics; «Materials for the dictionary of univerbs of modern Russian language» – the work in which the verbal and polvirbal units were collected, the first filled up the language with hundreds words, having got the name of the univerbai.
