Abstract

In the article the etymology of Italian and French name of the bird kingfisher (Alcedo Atthis) is observed and the reasons of the transferring of the names are proposed. The origins of such secondary nomination, one should search in the Christian symbolism and in the pre-Christian gentile ritual observations of birds (auspicial). The of the name “The Bird of Saint Mary” is compared with the name “The Bird of Saint Martin”, which concerns to the same bird (Alcedo Atthis)
