Abstract

The upconversion emission studies of Tm3+ and Yb3+doped ZrTi1.4O4 ceramic as a function of different ytterbium concentrations (1, 2, 3, and mol %) are discussed and reported. Samples are synthesized via solution combustion method, a wet chemical route. Raman studies reveal the phonon energy of the rare earth doped sample is as low as 436 cm−1. Under 980 nm excitation, upconverted emission bands centred at 478 nm and 650 nm have been observed due to the transitions (1G4→3H6) and (1G4→3F4) respectively. As the ytterbium concentration increases, the upconverted luminescence intensity increases and, at Yb3+ =3 mol% concentration, the strongest upconversion emission is shown by the sample. IR emission occurring at 1733 is due to 3F4→3H6 transition.
