Abstract

ALISE's Governmental Relations Committee met at the 1996 conference and wrestled with the problem of defining ALISE's role in governmental relations. To avoid duplicating the efforts of comparable library and information science (LIS) organizations, a decision was made to focus the committee's efforts on information policy. In a variety of activities, beginning this year, emphasis will be placed on finding ways to train future generations of LIS professionals in various aspects of information policy. Consequently, this JELIS column is the first in a series of occasional columns about teaching information policy. You are invited to submit your comments, suggestions, and contributions for future columns. This column begins by describing the approach used in an information policy class
