Abstract

Abstract Based on an extensive field study and on the long-term monitoring of the kinematics of a toppling rock tower standing on a slope edge, a forecast of the time of its failure is presented. This is derived from a consideration of both present static equilibrium of the rock block including its kinematics and phenomenological characteristics and also the stage of disintegration of the block as part of the processes leading to rock fall.
