Abstract

Abstract The product vibrational distribution is calculated for the process Ar( 3 P) + N 2 (X) → Ar + Bi* 2 (C 3 H u ). The evolution of the molecular vibration is treated using simple time-dependent quantum mechanics. The theory fits the oscillations in the vibrational distribution observed recently by Cutshall and Muschlitz.
