Abstract

The myocardial mitochondrial alterations induced by ip sodium selenite administration in guinea pigs are dose dependent. The lesions were characterized by swelling, disruption of cristae, and marked cavitation of space; in some sections a glycogen accumulation was observed. The maximum lesion was present 6–12 hr after injection; and after 14 days a partial recovery was observed.
