Abstract
A 72-year-old male was admitted to the hospital because of chest oppression. The patient was operated on under a diagnosis of mediastinum tumor. The tumor invaded the great arteries, pericardium, left lung and bilateral phrenic nerves. The pathological diagnosis was carcinoid tumor of the thymus. Serum neuron specific enolase (NSE) levels decreased after the surgery. NSE may be a useful marker for the diagnosis and follow-up of thymic cartinoids.
