Abstract

Device-to-Device (D2D) communication has facilitated spectral efficiency improvement in cellular systems. Transmission modes of D2D users have considerable effects on this improvement. In this paper, a mode selection approach is proposed to select which of the four possible transmission modes including dedicated, cellular, reuse and silent modes are suitable for each D2D user with the aim of maximizing the network throughput. The network traffic situation and the quality of service requirements of users are considered in the proposed approach as well. Moreover, Hungarian algorithm is used to perform optimal channel assignment. Simulation results show that proposed approach achieves high throughput gains over random approach especially in medium and high traffic situations.
