Abstract

This paper describes the applications of a model based on the boundary integral equation method (BIEM) for the analysis of three-dimensional (3-D) transient flow in large-scale shallow water flow fields. Under the assumption of hydrostatic pressure distribution and non-stratification. Ekman type linear barotropic models are adopted in the development of the BIEM model. The BIEM model has been compared with analytical solutions and other numerical schemes and found to be feasible and accurate. The circulation structures in hypothetical shallow-water flow fields are simulated under longduration, intermittent and periodic wind blowing with various kinds of bottom configurations. The computed results for large-scale hypothetical shallow water flow fields are a good realization of actual behaviors at least in terms of qualitative aspects.
