Abstract

We present a systematic three-dimensional radiation pattern analysis of a mobile handset and its antenna. A case-by-case inclusion of various mechanical parts in the simulation of the antenna verifies the most important part which affects the radiation pattern of the handset antenna. Our simulation results considering the overall circuit board and the case of the handset predict the measured radiation pattern within 0.5 dB as well as valley positions. The detailed inclusion of the circuit board and the handset body in the simulation of the radiation pattern is shown to be important in accurately predicting the measured result.
