Abstract

We predict that a three-wave resonant interaction (TWRI) for theexcitations created from a continuous-wave background is possiblein nonlinear optical fibres with a centro-symmetry. We show thatin normal dispersion regime and near the zero-dispersion point ofa single-mode optical fibre, the phase-matching condition for theTWRI can be satisfied by suitably choosing the wavevectors andfrequencies of the exciting waves. The nonlinear envelopeequations for the TWRI are derived by using a method ofmultiple-scales, and their explicit solutions for sum- anddifference-frequency mixing are provided and discussed.
