Abstract

A different approach is presented to study the sideward flow of nuclear matter in high-energy nuclear collision. The method is essentially based on a comparison of experimental three-particle angular correlation with that of the Monte Carlo events, assuming an independent emission of the target protons. The method is applied to the central24Mg−AgBr interactions at 4.5 GeV/c per nucleon, and a statistically significant excess of the correlation values over those obtained from Monte Carlo events is observed. This indicates the occurrence of collective sideward flow of target protons emitted in an angular zone (emission angle within 55° to 90°).
