Abstract

This thesis consists of three self-contained papers on the demographic transition process in developing countries. The first two papers, study the impact of demographic transition, on growth and inequality using a micro dataset covering a long period spanning 25 years in China. The third paper, analyses the demographic transition process from a gender perspective, in which we construct long-run estimates of missing women for the two most populous countries in the world - China and India.
