Abstract
Flow amplifiers are devices used for amplifying the inlet flow rate to many folds at the outlet. These devices work on the principle of jet pump where high pressure motive fluid discharged through a nozzle entrains the fluid around it and causes a secondary flow. Jet pumps find wide application in chemical & process industries and also in nuclear reactors. Flow amplifier having small size jet pumps with low area ratio was developed for installation in an experimental test rig of a research reactor. This flow amplifier helps in reducing the flow rate required in the loop and minimize the size of equipment & piping of the loop. The jet pumps used in this flow amplifier are of miniature size due to the space limitation in the test rig. Also, the area ratio is kept very small (~0.05) as the flow amplification requirement is very high (~4). In the present study, three dimensional CFD analysis of the multi-jet flow amplifier assembly was carried out for various process & geometric parameters and the performance was predicted for arriving at the optimum design.
