Abstract

The Third International Conference on Ethical Issues in Biomedical Engineering was held in Rochester, New York, June 4-6, 2005, at the Crowne Plaza hotel. Following a welcome by the conference chair, Dr. Subrata Saha, the participants were also formally welcomed by Dr. Alastair Cormack, dean of the School of Engineering, Alfred University, and by Dr. Charles Phelps, the provost of the University of Rochester (Figs. 1 and 2). Welcoming notes from Senator Charles Schumer of New York and Mr. John R. Ryan, acting chancellor of the State University of New York and Vice Admiral, USN (Ret.), were also distributed to the registrants; these are included in the appendix.
