Abstract

We observe optical third- and fifth-harmonic generation to wavelengths of ultraviolet and vacuum ultraviolet at an unconventional vacuum-glass interface without plasma formation. We extend this harmonic-generation technique to various other interfaces and suggest that odd-multipole harmonic generation at an interface by a focused light beam is a general phenomenon. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.
