Abstract

The interaction of tris(triphenylphosphine)dichlororuthenium(II) with carbon disulphide leads to two complexes of the respective formulae [RuCl2(CS)(PPh3)2]2 and [RhCl(CS2)(PPh3)3]Cl; the former has a thiocarbonyl group and the latter a π-carbon disulphido-group. The halogen bridges in the thiocarbonyl complex can be cleaved by carbon monoxide, pyridine (py),2,2′-bipyridyl (bipy), or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) to give octahedral ruthenium(II) complexes, e.g., RuCl2(CS)(CO)(PPh3)2. From the reaction in methanol solution, non-sulphur-containing complexes, e.g., [Ru2Cl2(bipy)2(PPh3)4]Cl2 are obtained. The new complexes are characterised by analysis and infrared spectroscopic studies.
