Abstract
This article outlines a relatively simple and quick method for producing thin-foil samples of aluminum powder particles for transmission electron microscopy (TEM) examination. Details of solution preparation, experimental procedure, and results achieved are discussed. The procedure involves deposition of a nickel substrate around the individual aluminum powder particles to facilitate thinning to a thickness compatible with TEM examination. Photomicrographs of successful depositions and examples of microstructures of elevated temperature and high-strength aluminum powder metallurgy alloys are included.
