Abstract

The paper deals with the study of design, development & characterization of thin film sensor with different material for detection of Nitro aromatic explosive. Explosives like DNT (Dinitrotoluene), TNT (Trinitrotoluene) are Nitro aromatic compounds & consist of NO2 group as their prime element. Detection of nitric oxide is an indicator of the presence of Nitro-aromatic explosive. Thin film sensors of different materials like tin oxide, polyaniline, indium oxide, phthalocyanine with selective metals, palladium, aluminium were prepared using a spin coating technique. Comparative study of the resistive changes of the thin films exposed to nitric oxide was carried out. In this paper, time domain response, sensitivity of a thin film sensors &the market available sensor is studied. It was found that; thin film sensor of indium oxide doped with aluminium metal powder is most sensitive to nitroaroma.
