Abstract

A thermotolerant variant of Bacillus licheniformis strain H1 (isolated from Jordan valley soil), was highly active in degrading macromolecules, and possessed a lipase activity with a half life of 30 min at 70°C. This activity was produced during exponential growth. The extracellular crude lipase showed maximal activity at pH 10, and retained 65% of its stability at pH 12.
