Abstract

For over the last few decades, use of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), in addition to the non-electrical applications, has greatly increased for high-voltage electrical insulation in both outdoor and indoor applications due to its attractive properties, ease of processing and recyclable. This article reviews the history of high-voltage (HV) polymeric insulation, important properties of electrical insulation ability, and the emergence of TPEs as third generation insulating materials for HV applications. Herein, literature surveys on various types of TPEs studied for HV insulation have been added. Furthermore, the use of nanofillers for improving electrical insulation performance in TPEs and the microstructure-property relationship of TPE nanocomposites have been highlighted in this article.
