Abstract

Thermoluminescence (TL) curves from Na +-implanted Al 2O 3 irradiated by 137Cs gamma rays, from Al 2O 3 irradiated with 137Cs gamma ray only and from Al 2O 3 implanted with Na + only were measured over the temperature range of 340–620 K. The TL curve induced by 137Cs gamma ray irradiation of Na +-implanted Al 2O 3 has three peaks located at 452, 508 and 568 K and two shoulders at 407 and 415 K. The TL intensity of ion-implanted Al 2O 3 induced gamma ray is greater than that of Al 2O 3 implanted with ion only and that of Al 2O 3 irradiated with gamma ray only. The TL intensity of ion-implanted Al 2O 3 increases with increasing ion dose and ion energy whereas the TL intensity of that decreases with increasing ion mass. The TL intensity is found to have a very close relation with the ion dose, the ion energy, and the ion species.
