Abstract

Antiferroelectric superlattice-reflection intensity and pseudo-tetragonal lattice distortion of PbZrO 3 show the same temperature dependence, which can be described by a usual phenomenological theory that includes a quantum effect. R 25 superlattice-reflection intensity shows the different temperature dependence above room temperature. Birefringence in the ab plane shows the same temperature dependence as the R 25 superlattice-reflection intensity. The dependence of the pseudo-tetragonal distortion and the birefringence can be described by the free energy expansion based on a group-theoretical method. The temperature dependence of R 25 superlattice-reflection intensity is explained by biquadratic coupling and 2nd and 4th order coupling between the antiferroelectric and the R 25 order parameters.
