Abstract

The interaction between the oxygen and lanthanum ions in fused 0.36NaCl-0.64CsCl eutectic in the temperature range (823–1023) K has been studied by the method of potentiometric titration using YZME electrodes. The mechanism of interaction between La3+ and O2− ions was established versus the temperature and the basicity of medium. The solubility constants of lanthanum oxychloride and oxide compounds at various temperatures were determined. Specific thermodynamic properties of LaOCl and La2O3 were calculated. The Pourbaix (potential–pO2−) diagram was drawn and the stable lanthanum species in the melt were summarized.
