Abstract

The enthalpies of mixing of the liquid alloys in the binary systems Cu-Ce, Ag-Ce, Au-Ce and in the ternary liquid systems Cu-Ag-Au and Ce-Ag-Au have been measured by high-temperature calorimetry at 1473 ± 2 K. The standard enthalpies of formation of congruently melting inter- metallic compounds in the considered binary systems have also been determined. The results obtained for the solid alloys are compared with predicted values from Miedema's semiempirical model. Interpretation of the data for the two ternary liquid alloy systems has been based on a model which includes contributions from two-body and three-body interactions which occur in the solutions.
