Abstract
New values for the standard heats of formation of phosphorus tri-iodide and diphosphorus tetraiodide [ΔHf°(c)=–59·3 ± 2·5; –113·1 ± 5·0 kJ mole–1 respectively] are reported. The mean bond dissociation energy P – I is calculated to be 210 kJ mole–1, and the bond energy EP – P= 232 kJ mole–1.
