Abstract

To increase production of carbon and low-alloy at the Szerzhinsk Chemical Machinery Plant, thermal treatments were introduced to remove welding stresses. An elevator-type gas furnace with hydraulic drive, introduced for treatment equipment of diameter 2600m and length 5000m is illustrated. This furnace facilitates normalization, high tempering, and stabilizing annealing. A furnace with a sliding hearth to treat equipment of diameter 5000 and length 3000m is also described. It high tempers to remove stresses after manual or automatic welding. The problem of proper supports for these furnaces is considered. Saddle supports with contrast angle 180/sup 0/ are recommended. Placement and rate of heating of the furnaces are also detailed.
