Abstract

Measurements of the linear coefficient of thermal expansion of KTaO3 at temperatures from 2K to 30K give values of the Gruneisen parameter gamma reaching approximately 40 at helium temperatures, falling to 20 at 20K. These are larger than usual values ( approximately 2) for acoustic (or optic) modes but considerably smaller than gamma f predicted from the pressure dependence of the dielectric constant.
