Abstract

It is shown that the thermal degradation of polyamides containing 1,2- and 1,7-diphenylcarborane fragments is similar in nature to the degradation of polyamides based on m -carboranedicarboxylic acid, but the onset of vigorous decomposition occurs at higher temperatures. The amide groups in carborane-containing polyamides are more resistant to hydrolysis than in ordinary polyamides. It has been found that o- carborane groups stabilize the amide bound in polyamides to a greater extent than m -carborane groups.
